Last week was a fun filled week. It started off with going to San Diego with Megan and Bryan. We watched Superbad, and I was caught off guard by how dirty the movie was. But it was a hilarious movie! Certain quotes from that movie will never be forgotten. After the movie, we went to Extraordinary Desserts. I love that place! Their desserts are delicious.
We took our desserts over to La Jolla Cove. I much prefer the cove over the beach because there are less people, and it's prettier.
I've never seen someone write this before. Haha!
Apparently, San Diego is a big hot air ballooning spot. I've always wanted to go, but I think that once I got up there I would be too scared to enjoy it.

On Tuesday I went to Montclair to get my First Aid Certificate. I'm not really sure what the difference between CPR and First Aid is, but I'm certified for both.
Montclair Plaza was right next door to the First Aid place so I got to do some shopping. =D

I had some holds on my registration so I had to go to LLU on Wednesday. It is so hot there! Walking from my car to a building required so much energy. Other than the heat, it was actually a good trip. I saw a lot of people that I got to catch up with.
When I got back to LA, I went to eat Salvadorian food with Jenelyn. I love pupusas! I'm really going to miss Briggitte's grandmother's cooking. She always had something while at the dorm. On our way back home, Jen and I got a little lost. But good came out of it because we got to explore LA. We went to the Walt Disney Concert Hall and the LA Music Center.
I never knew LA had these beautiful fountains. There were 10 fountains all in a one block range of each other.
The next day we had out last dinner together since Jen was leaving for Texas the next day. We ate at There's No Place Like Home in Silverlake. Jen and I decided to take them to LA after so we could take pictures by the fountains and Downtown LA. A lot of the pictures are blurry because we didn't use flash. The flash made the pictures come out oddly colored.
I like this picture because we are arranged by height, and we didn't even mean to do it.
Khaing was on a rampage trying to attack Kevin. Aah, good times.
The girls...
The boys...
And all of us hanging out by the fountain

On Friday I went to the market, and I went fruit crazy. I bought a bunch of different fruits, from blueberries to nectarines. Yum!
I went to Cingular to upgrade my plan. I'm in desperate need for a new cell phone. My current phone turns off randomly. I'm thinking about getting a Blackberry because it would be convenient for some things at LLU. But I'm trying to get one cheaper than $300. So if anyone knows of somewhere I can get it for a cheaper price, please let me know.

One more month of summer... I hope it's a good one.

Party like a rock star. Yesterday we celebrated Blossom and Khaing's 21st birthday. We ate at TGIF and went karaoke at K-town.

Here are the birthday girls with their birthday tiaras from Jei.

Khaing taking a sip of her first Appletini. Blossom also tried it but she said it tastes like cough syrup.

Erin is definitely entertaining when she has alcohol in her system.

Karaoke at K-town is so much fun every time I go. I love it!

And our photographer of the evening...
Thanks Jen!

Good times. We didn't get back to Khaing's house until 2:30 am. And now I'm exhausted from lack of sleep. Good night.

My biggest pet peeve at the moment are loan consolidators that constantly call. But I do like the fact that when I tell them I still have two more years left, they hang up right away. I just wish that they would tell all of their loan consolidator friends that so they would leave me alone. And for some reason they always call me Friday nights around dinner time.

By the way, if you're ever in Vancouver, go to this place called La Casa Gelato. It has 218 flavors of gelato. I love it! Their Death By Mango flavor is really delicious, especially if you like something a little tart.

I'm back! Well I've been back for three days but have yet to blog about it. I took the Greyhound up to Stockton to my cousin's house. My two year old niece was feeling a little sick which led to her throwing up on my bag. It's OK because she said "I'm sooo sorry, Auntie Jenny." How could I not forgive that? The next day we went to Sacramento to pick up my Aunt and began our 18 hour road trip. It took us 24 hours to get there because we stopped over someone's house in Washington for six hours. The first few days we were there it was raining, and I was a little sick. That was very unpleasant. Then we went to Victoria Island and spent most of our time near the beach. We went back to Vancouver and went to all the sightseeing places. Then we went to Blaine, Washington because one of our family friends has a vacation house up there. It was very beautiful. We got to go to the outlets in Washington. I appreciated being in Washington because I got to use my phone without roaming. After Washington, we went for a day trip to Whistler. I would really love to go there one winter and stay at their resort. During our last week in Canada, we spent most of our time going around Vancouver. I got to meet up with Kathryn and watch Transformers. That movie is BOMB! Optimus Prime kicks metal butt! My last day was spent shopping in order for me to get rid of all of the Canadian money I had. Everyone I went to Canada with eventually getting sick. I got sick at the beginning of the trip, but everyone else got sick at the end. But they got sick a lot more than I did. And now I am back from my three week vacation. I bought lots of stuff, but I wish I could have bought real Canadian maple syrup and a Mountie hat. Next time I'll definitely buy those. Here are some pictures of the trip.

In Canada... where the moose are.

Riding carousels make me feel like a kid again. =D

SNOW?!?! In July?!?! Only in Whistler...

Hello! I'm Mrs. Humpty Dumpty.

Washington has pretty sunsets.

Ain't she just adorable?

Pretty pretty little lilies..

We stopped by the Weed Rest Area. Surprisingly, I saw no one toking up. Hmm.

My niece being gangsta...

Today is an awful day. But yesterday was much better. Khaing got us a free two hours of bowling at Lucky Strikes in Torrance. It was a lot of fun. We played girls vs. boys, but the girls' lane kept getting messed up.

After bowling, we went to Guppys Teahouse.

Monica and I shared their Coconut Butter Toast. It's so good, but you can only eat a couple bites of it since it's so rich.

Aahh, free bowling, friends and Asian-ish food makes for a fun day.

Juror number 5289? Here.
For the past two days I have been serving my civic duty. The first day wasn't too bad. It went by quicker than I expected. I made friends with a few women sitting next to me. It was a little weird at first because most of them were old enough to be my mom. But somehow I got along with them well. We went to lunch at Japanese Village. While walking there, I talked to another potential juror who was trying to find a place to eat. I got along better with her because she was only a couple years older than me. After lunch, I got called into a case and stayed in the courtroom for the rest of the day. I had to come back the next day. I was so mad, but I wasn't too mad because overall it was a good day.
After getting home, I went to hang out with Megan and Bryan at the Grove. We ate, watched the water fountain show, and took "Who's Your TV Alter Ego" quizzes at Barnes & Noble.

Bryan knocked the whipped cream off my fork... and then I ATE IT! Just kidding.

This picture is just really funny to me. Aah, those fountains.

It was a long yet eventful day, and I knocked out when I got home.
I went back to jury duty today. And as my luck would have it, I got picked to serve on the jury. I got sworn in and everything. We took our lunch break, and I sat in the cafeteria, thinking about having to serve on a jury. I was a little mad, but the more I thought about it, it wasn't that bad. The trial was only for a couple days. I would only be in court for four hours, and I got a two hour lunch break. I was going to use that two hours to gallivant around and explore the city. I thought about the places I wanted to visit, like the Walt Disney Concert Hall, the MOCA, and the cathedral. I started getting really excited about it. When I got back to the courtroom, one of the jurors was missing. The judge sent us outside the courtroom to wait for him. He came 45 minutes late. When we got back inside, the judge said that she had to call for a mistrial, and all of the jurors were excused. I was a little sad that I wouldn't get to explore LA, but I was happy that I didn't have to serve anymore.
I wasn't sure what a mistrial was so I looked it up.
According to Wikipedia:

"A judge may cancel a trial prior to the return of a verdict; legal parlance designates this as a mistrial.

A judge may declare a mistrial due to:

  • The court determining that it lacks jurisdiction over a case,
  • Evidence being admitted improperly,
  • Misconduct by a party, juror, or an outside actor, if it prevents due process,
  • A hung jury, which cannot reach a verdict with the required degree of unanimity
  • Disqualification of a juror after the jury is impaneled, if no alternate juror is available and the litigants do not agree to proceed with the remaining jurors.

A declaration of a mistrial generally means that the court must hold a retrial on the same subject."

We were dismissed because of reason number 3. And so ends my service, at least for one year.

Weekends in Pasadena are "uber." Last night a few of us went to eat at Twin Palms in Old Town Pasadena. The atmosphere was nice, but the food wasn't as good as I expected. But their dessert platter of all their best desserts is amazing! Their creme brulee is the best thing ever!
After dinner, we walked around for a little bit then went to Cal Tech so Jen could give us a tour. Cal Tech is a creepy at night. It felt like someone was going to jump out of the bushes and attack us. Some random cat started following us but eventually found something else to occupy its time. Jenelyn led us to a pond that had lots of turtles living in it. Gian and Kevin were trying to disturb the pond so the turtles would come out so they could take one home.

I failed to take a picture of the sign next to the pond that said "Please do not take any animals from the pond."
Today Jen, Kristina, and I went to Mi Piace for brunch. I really like that restaurant. It's reasonably priced for delicious food. And their desserts are even better. I like their cheesecake a lot better than Cheesecake Factory's. We also went shopping around Old Town. What was supposed to be a thirty minute venture turned into one that tripled the time.
I'm kind of glad I'm going to be on vacation for three weeks because it will take the pressure off my wallet and bank account. I've been spending a lot of money these past several weeks on mostly food and other miscellaneous expenses. This is really bad because I have no income coming in this summer. Three weeks will help me save money for the last two months of summer after I get back. Even though my parents won't be on vacation with me, I still don't have to pay for myself. Haha! =D

Spending the 4th of July in Loma Linda is crazy! I'm glad Kristina had a pool because it was 102 degrees. Oh, am I looking forward to living there! Well there's not much to blog about the day. We ate, swam, played games, laughed, talked, watch fireworks on the way home, and had a grand ole time!

I might go to Ecuador. Earlier this summer Kris mentioned that he was going to Ecuador for a mission trip with Maranatha. I've been considering going for the past few weeks, but I haven't mentioned it to my parents yet. Kristina and Louvelle are also going, and Kevin is also considering. If I do go, I'll only have two days to unpack from Canada, do laundry, repack for Ecuador, and do errands since my dad is leaving for the Philippines. It will be really hectic. But it is a great opportunity for me to do mission work and to experience different things. We shall see.

From Sunday to Tuesday I went up north for my niece's 8th grade graduation. I love going up there because there are so many cute little kids, one of which is my 2 year old niece. She talks so much. It's true what they say about girls maturing before boys. She talks a lot more than her 3 year old cousin (this cute chubby-cheeked little boy).

My niece carries long conversations about the most random things, and it's just so darn cute. She says "Guys, don't worry about it. I'll help you." I don't know many 2 year olds that say that. She also sings a lot, so here's a clip of her singing.

By the way, I love my camera! I have been getting so much use out of it, and it takes amazing quality pictures. =D

Sunday, June 24, 2007

I haven't blogged in a while so I feel it is my duty to catch up on my summer. Nothing major has happened so far. I've just been spending time with friends and family and volunteering at the hospital. I volunteer at the medical library. My supervisor is Filipino so she is really chill and gives me lots of free food. Jenelyn and I have been trying to make stuff for our summer project, so I decided to make a pink, yellow, and gray mushroom. Isn't it pretty?

Tonight I went to Japanese Village with Kristina and Jenelyn. We ate a Frying Fish because that's the only place that makes salmon skin rolls that I like. We headed over to a party hosted by Kevin and Joe. It was a Glendale party, but it ended up being a SGA reunion.

There was this one girl (who happens to be lesbian) kept grinding and dancing on me. I was a bit uncomfortable so Sheila tried to hide me. Haha!
While we were leaving to go home, we had a little PTC reunion, minus Mark. We were like gangsters because we were hanging out on the street next to a car in the middle of the night. Yeah!

I got to use my new camera a lot tonight. I finally got my Canon Powershot SD750 on Wednesday. I'm really happy that I got this camera because it takes really good pictures.
OK. I have to finish packing. I am going up north tomorrow for my niece's graduation. Yay!

SUMMER VACATION!! I'm done with La Sierra! Not to say that I haven't had some good times there, but two years there was more than enough.
My biochemistry test went better than I expected. For the final, we have two tests: one from our teacher over the two chapters we haven't been tested on and a standardized cumulative one from the ACS (American Chemical Society). As usual, I procrastinated and only studied for two hours right before the test. But it's OK because I got a 94 on the regular test and a 97 on the standardized. Haha, that's funny. I've always wondered how it would be like to just wing it on a science final, and I kind of did it.
I was the first one to check out of the dorm out of us girls. It was a little sad to see my side of the room empty. I was not sad to say goodbye to LSU, but I was sad to leave the girls. Briggitte has been my roomie for the past two years, and it's going to be a little weird not seeing her all the time. I'll see Giselle in the summer and hopefully at LLU. I'm not sure what Connie will be doing so I don't know when I will get to see her. I'm going to miss gossiping with her. She brings out the true girl in me. Haha! I'll miss all of them.
After my parents picked me up, we went to Loma Linda to scout out some apartments for me. It was so hot! I am soo looking forward to living there for the next two to three years of my life, and maybe even more. Gah.
Well, I'm glad that I don't have to think about school work for at least three months. Now I just need to figure out things to do to occupy my time.

My CUMULATIVE biochemistry final is in a little less than twelve hours, and I haven't studied anything. Good job, Jennifer. =D

Best dead week ever. Well, it was really good compared to the five others I have experienced. On Monday I passed my Japanese final. But it was a lot easier than I thought it would be, but that class is already so easy. I just had to read a chapter of the Bible in Japanese. I read like a first grader.
On Tuesday I went to Starbucks with Blossom after class. Yumm! Then Chris, Jenelyn, and Khaing came to visit. We all ate at the Korean restaurant near school. I really like that we get free ice cream after the meal. Blossom, Jen, Khaing and I watched a Filipino movie in my dorm. The funny thing was that Khaing understood more of the movie than Jenelyn did, and Khaing isn't even Filipino! After the movie, Jenelyn and I took random pictures.

Khaing didn't want to participate in our antics, so she was our photographer. We went to eat at Frostbites then went to Michaels and Best Buy. I figured out what camera I am going to buy. Canon PowerShot SD750. I like the picture quality, the features, the size, the style, and the price. I am still deciding when to get it because I'm actually paying for this camera myself. Khaing and I played with the cameras on the Macs.
Aah, good times. =D
Wednesdays are usually my bum out days because I have no class, but this week I was actually productive. I helped Mamiko with her class presentation on the book of Revelation. Every person in the class had a verse and had to present it in a creative way. This one girl tore her shirt open to represent Revelations 17: 16. That was slightly uncomfortable.
Thursday was an exciting day. And it all started with a very refreshing nap in the afternoon. After my nap, Connie and I went to go get free Subway sandwiches and Jamba Juice from SALSU. I love that SALSU always provides us with Jamba Juice or Starbucks during dead week. It wasn't enough to fill me up though so Connie and I went to Hotlanta for some hot wings. But before we could go, Sheila called me and told me that her, Byron, and Mike Ha were at the LSU gym. Mike looks different. His hair is very Spanish-like, and he got more tanned. He looks like Rico Suave. I feel like he should be speaking in a deep Spanish accent. Then he grabs your hand and spins you around while salsa music is playing in the background. After Hotlanta, Connie and I went to the nice and expensive Esplanade apartments next to LSU to use their jacuzzi and pool. It felt really good to swim. Connie and I then went on a late night Starbucks run. It felt like last year. All that was missing was Cold Stones and the mall. It was a really good day.
On Friday I had a Religion final that I only studied twenty minutes for. It was one of those classes that if you grew up SDA, you don't need to study. But when I got to class, our teacher announced that we weren't going to have a final. We didn't need one. He's one of my favorite teachers I've had, and I'm not just saying that because he didn't give us a final. When he teaches, you can tell that he really loves God and has a close relationship with Him.
And that is my best dead week ever. I have one final this week: biochemistry. I am not looking forward to the ACS test.

Tuesday, June 05, 2007

It's 6:44 am, and I am wide awake. I've been up since 4:50 am for no reason at all. I just woke up and couldn't fall back asleep. I tried to, but I kept thinking of Japanese writing characters. As I pictured them in my head, I tried to read them. I think it's because I had my Japanese final yesterday. Then my stomach started to growl so I drank some soy milk. I still couldn't go back to sleep, so now I'm waiting for the cafe to open so I can get some breakfast. I'm so excited! I haven't gotten to get breakfast in a while, and the breakfasts here are pretty good.
I've feeling a little emo for the past 24 hours. All I've been listening to is "The Fear You Won't Fall" by Joshua Radin and "It Was Love" by The Elected. Strangely, I haven't gotten tired of either of the songs. Yesterday started off well because I got to see a lot of people at SGA's graduation. At night things weren't so great. But today I ate the most perfect apple, thanks to Connie! Well, it was perfect to me. It had the perfect combination of sweet, sour, juicy, and crunchy. I think that made my day. =D

I was on www.postsecret.com and saw a couple cards that caught my attention.

I think everyone feels this way sometimes.

But I think it's harder when you have no idea what it is you want or don't know what to expect. Ay buhay..

Sunday, June 03, 2007

I think that things need to start changing in my life.

Tuesday, May 29, 2007

This weekend was exhausting. I went up to San Francisco for my cousin's graduation, and I got a little sick. It was due to the lack of sleep three nights in a row and that it rained while we were at an outdoor graduation. Then I came back down for my other cousin's graduation from med school at LLU. The guys in the med program are cute! They make me not mind marrying a doctor. Haha! Just kidding.. I'm not shallow.

There are two more weeks of school. I'm so happy! I'm getting really anxious for it to be over. I can't wait for summer to come.

Wednesday, May 23, 2007

There was an earthquake here in Riverside just now. It was kind of scary because I've never been in one while not being at home. All of us grabbed our stuff in case there would be another one. Haha!
At 10:29 PM tonight, I found out that I got accepted to Loma Linda University School of Nursing! My mom called me to check up on me and casually slipped in that I got a letter from Loma Linda. I told her to open it, and she took her precious time opening it. I start in the fall! Yay! =D

Monday, May 21, 2007

It is not my day. Things have been going wrong all day, and I've just been so frustrated. I really want to complain some more, but I just don't have the energy.

Friday, May 18, 2007

I really wanted to change my layout because I thought my other one was too colorful. I figured that gray was a nice neutral color to go with. I don't know why I want my blog to look more and more dull/plain as time progresses. This layout is a little boring, but I like it.

This past Thursday SALSU rented a photo booth so the students could take free pictures. Blossom, Giselle, and I passed by on our way back from our Financial Aid meeting and took some. We took four but these are the only ones we like. The other two were awful.

どういたしまして (You're welcome) DOU-I-TA-SHI-MA-SHI-TE

That's my Japanese word for today. For the longest time I had a hard time saying that word, but today I somehow got it right.
There are four more weeks of school left, but only 12 days of actual class for me, excluding finals. I loathe all of you who are already or will soon be out of school for the summer. I can't wait until school is out. I will be done with La Sierra. Hooray!
I am attempting to pack some stuff to bring home so I don't have to do it all on the last day. Even with three bags full of stuff, my closet still looks like it's full of clothes. I underestimated how many clothes I have. Gah, I'm such a girl.

Today was my LLUSN interview. Briggitte had to study so I drove her car. Her car's acceleration is so sensitive. I was averaging 85 and didn't even notice. It is so hot today. There is not wind, and it's so dry. I was wearing a full on pants suit so I was dying from the heat. My interview went well. My interviewer was really friendly and made me feel comfortable. But the interview was only ten to fifteen minutes long. People tell me it's around 30 minutes, so I don't know if the length of my interview is a good or bad thing. Well it's done now, and I am so relieved. I hated the anticipation of having to wait.

Saturday night I went to the Geisha House for Heidi's birthday. I got the Frightened Geisha and tried the Dynamite Roll. Their sushi is so fresh. I found my love for sashimi. The Geisha House has a really cool interior. The bar area looks so cool! Their party rooms are so nice, but it's $1000 to reserve one.

Before dropping Connie off, Brig, Connie, Vivi, and I took sticker pictures at Cue. Vivi is pro at decorating the pictures. The Chinese characters on the top right mean "Beautiful Girls."

Today Megan came to visit. We ate at the cafe, and it was a Cinco de Mayo theme. There was a Mariachi band and everything. We went to the mall to run a special errand for Connie.

My LLU interview is tomorrow. I'm really excited about it. I like one on one interaction. I feel nervous at first, but once I get into the room and settle in, I am more open and friendly. Wish me luck!
